What is a Forest Garden?

A Forest Garden mimics a natural woodland ecosystem.
It makes maximum use of the space available by growing plants in up to 7 different layers.
This makes it possible to grow a variety of crops, including:

🌴 Canopy layer – tall trees for fruits & nuts such as walnuts, apples, pears

🌳 Under story – smaller, shade tolerant trees for fruits & nuts such as plums or even medicinal Eucalyptus

🍒 Shrub layer – berries, currants

🌱 Herbaceous layer – herbs & perennial veg

🌿 Vertical layer – climbers such as kiwis and grapes

🌰 Ground layer – creepers such as wild gingers

🍠 Rhizosphere – root plants & veg such as carrots, beets even fungi

🌶 Succession -growing plants that use sunlight at different times in the season

Our forest garden has been growing for over 4 years now! Come to the farm and experience the diversity it holds for yourself 🙂
